You turn on your kitchen faucet and instead of your usual water flow, you get just a trickle. If you are using a water filter, this could be the culprit. Your water filter could be clogged.

You cannot live without water so you want that problem fixed as soon as possible. So, what do you do in such a case?

Clean the Filter

The first thing you want to do is check the filter for clogging. A filter is meant to trap unwanted solid and dissolved matter from getting into your water.

This material accumulates on the other end of your filter causing clogging. It will need to be removed.

If your filter is directly fitted onto the faucet, remove it and soak it in a cup full of white vinegar for 30 minutes, with the valve facing downwards.

Check Filter Pump

If you have an under sink filter, check the pump for build-up of sediments. Remove the scales. If there is still a problem with water flow, the pump could be faulty and may need to be replaced.

Replace the Filter

Every water filter comes with a manufacturer's recommended cycle for replacement. Have you been observing this? If not, then proceed to change the filter. Make sure you buy the right model.

From beneath the sink, turn off the cold water valve. Turn on both the hot and cold water faucets to release water in the filter. If your water filter has a vent valve, you will need to press it as well.

Use a Water Softener

If you have had the filter for a long time, and it is clogging too often, then perhaps it's time look for an alternative.

If you live in a hard water zone, then hard water could be the reason for the constant clogging.

Hard water has mineral deposits that will cause your filter to clog more often.

Constantly changing filters can be tedious, not to mention costly. You should probably consider installing a water softener to complement the filter.

The water softener will remove most sediment-causing minerals such as calcium and magnesium and extend the life of your filter.

It is normal for a water filter to clog from time to time. With regular cleaning and replacement,

you should be able to easily contain the problem.

However, if the problem is persistent, you will need a lasting solution. Getting an expert to install high quality drinking water systems in your home is one way of getting rid of the problem once and for all. Contact a company, like Oxley Softwater Co, for more help.
