When you have carpeting throughout your house, you will want to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to keep it nice and clean. This will not only lengthen the life of your carpet and keep it attractive looking, but it can help keep it clear of allergens that could irritate certain family members. For a little more information, you will want to keep reading through the following information.

Vacuum Often

Too many people actually make the mistake of assuming that vacuuming their carpets too often can lead to damaged carpet fibers. However, it is actually the exact opposite. When the carpets are not vacuumed often, the dirt that get pushed deep into the fibers can actually begin to cut away at them, especially as people walk back and worth across the carpet. Therefore, you will not only want to vacuum a few times throughout the week, and daily in the rooms with a lot of foot traffic, but you will want to sweep in direction directions in order to ensure that you are cleaning the carpet fibers from all angles.

Avoid Cleaning Powders

Whether they claim to be designed for the cleaning of the carpet or to eliminate odors, you will want to avoid these products. The reason for this is because the powders can get pushed deep down into the carpet, just like dirt, and begin to destroy the fibers. Over time, you will notice that your carpet will begin to look thinner instead of being as plush as it once was.

Hire Professional Cleaners

It is important to make sure that you are taking some time to hire professional cleaners for residential carpet cleaning once or twice a year. The more people there are living in your home and tracking in messes, the more often you will want to have it done. Just make sure that the carpet cleaners are using a dry foam cleaner instead of a lot of soapy water. You do not want your carpet saturated with water,  as it will just cause damage to the carpet fibers and the padding underneath.

Even though this is something that you have to keep up on, you will find that the effort will be more than worth it. The better you treat your carpets, the longer they will last without you having to pay a lot of money to have all of them replaced.
