If pigeons have been nibbling at the crops growing in your backyard, take action and discourage the pesky birds from remaining by using the following steps. As a result, your garden will remain intact and you can look forward to harvesting a healthy supply of fresh vegetables.

Materials Needed

  • measuring tape
  • garden netting
  • wooden stakes
  • plastic bird spikes
  • foil pans
  • hole puncher
  • string
  • scissors
  • natural bird repellent spray

Measure The Garden And Install Stakes And Netting

Measure the length and width of the garden and purchase a piece of netting that is slightly larger. Line the sides of the garden with wooden stakes that are evenly spaced apart. Drape the net over the center of the garden and secure the edges of the netting by placing the top of each stake through the part of the material that is directly over it. Make sure that the net is not crushing any of the crops and make adjustments to the stakes and netting if needed.

Add Bird Spikes And Hanging Foil Pans To Each Side

Line areas around the garden where you normally spot pigeons with plastic bird spikes. Spikes often are arranged in long strips and will make it difficult for pigeons to perch near the garden. The plastic, however, will not harm any birds that attempt to get close to the garden.

If there are any tall structures near the crops, such as trees, use a hole puncher to create a hole in each foil pan that you would like to use. Insert a piece of string through each hole and tie the strings around various tree branches. When the pans move around when it is windy outside, the sudden movement and shininess of each one will assist with scaring off pigeons that are nearby.

Spray The Property With A Natural Product

Purchase a product that contains natural ingredients from a landscaping company or another retailer that is designed to naturally discourage birds from remaining and spray the perimeter of your garden. A product like this will not harm any crops, grass, or foliage that are growing on your property, but will make your yard unfavorable to pigeons.

Care for the crops growing as you normally would. Soon, you will notice that pigeons are no longer making themselves at home on your property and you will be able to look forward to picking the bounty of vegetables that are growing in your garden.
